Overview
Japan does not compress well, and this route is deliberately the longest in the catalogue because a shorter version would be a disservice. Four nights in Tokyo cover the contrast between Asakusa and Shibuya without exhausting anyone, a night in the Hakone or Fuji area breaks the journey with onsen country and — weather permitting — the mountain itself, and four nights in Kyoto give access to the temple districts, the bamboo groves and a day at Nara. The bullet train handles the distances. Cherry blossom and autumn colour seasons are extraordinary and book far ahead; both are short, variable and impossible to guarantee.

Important Notes
Mount Fuji is frequently obscured by cloud and a clear view cannot be promised at any time of year — the Hakone leg is worthwhile regardless, and we would rather say this in advance than have it be a disappointment. Cherry blossom and autumn colour are short, variable and impossible to predict precisely; travelling for them means accepting that risk, and accommodation in those windows books many months ahead. Japan involves substantial walking and extensive rail use with stairs at many stations. Entry requirements differ by nationality and are verified before confirmation.
