Tbilisi & Kazbegi Journey

Tbilisi & Kazbegi Journey

Georgia5D / 4NNature & Adventure

Overview

Georgia’s appeal is how quickly the landscape changes. Tbilisi is a compact, atmospheric capital — cobbled old town, balconied houses, a serious food and wine culture — and within three hours’ drive the road climbs into genuine high mountains. This journey gives two nights to each: the city first, then the Georgian Military Highway north past the Ananuri fortress and the Gudauri ridge to Stepantsminda, where the Gergeti Trinity Church stands against Mount Kazbek. It is one of the most photographed views in the Caucasus and it earns the reputation. Four nights is enough to do both properly without rushing either.

Highlights

  • Atmospheric old Tbilisi and its cobbled lanes
  • Georgian food and wine culture
  • The scenic Georgian Military Highway

Important Notes

The road to Kazbegi crosses a high mountain pass and can be affected by snow or closure in winter and early spring; the route is confirmed close to travel and an alternative is offered if conditions require it. The final ascent to Gergeti church is by 4x4 on a rough track and is not suitable for everyone — tell us in advance if this is a concern. Mountain weather changes quickly and views cannot be guaranteed. Entry requirements differ by nationality and are verified before confirmation.
